In 2021, let’s level up and take steps towards a low waste household. In this Swap Series, let’s first look at ways you can reduce waste in our bathrooms and brands where you can get less impacting alternatives.
The first thing we recommend you do is to organize, declutter, and clean your bathroom. With all the items that you have left, see what you can replace with low waste alternatives.
1. Bamboo Toilet Paper
A single roll of wood pulp toilet paper takes 37 gallons of water and 440g of carbon to make and often comes wrapped in plastic packaging. Switch to Bamboo toilet paper that requires 90% less water and 70% less carbon to produce. Bambooloo toilet paper also comes with 0% plastic packaging. In addition Bamboo toilet paper is naturally antibacterial, antimicrobial and hypoallergenic. Consider that a win-win!
2. Bamboo Toothbrush
Around 4.7 billion plastic toothbrushes are produced each year and these end up in the landfills once they wear out. Switch to a bamboo toothbrush and when it wears out pluck out the fibers and compost the bamboo handle.
3. Toothpaste Powder
Switch to toothpaste powder instead that comes in a recyclable glass container to stop all the plastic tubes that end up in landfills.
